Opened in August of 2024, The Living Room is a free mental health drop-in service for anyone 18+ in Minnesota. Individuals meet with a Peer Support Specialist to process their current situation and receive recovery-based support in a safe, comfortable, home-like environment.

The Living Room was created as an innovative and compassionate alternative for adults experiencing mental health crises who might otherwise have gone to a hospital emergency department. In contrast to an ER visit, the Living Room is free and calm, and is staffed by Peer Support Specialists who have gone through their own mental health journeys. Rather than trying to fix what’s “wrong”, our staff are focused on support and exploring resources and strengths to facilitate recovery. Learn more about the role of Peer Support Specialists here.

You do not have to be in crisis to access Living Room services- staff are able to help with all levels of mental health challenges.

The Living Room is available 7 days a week, noon to 8 p.m. All services are free of charge. In-person services can be provided on a walk-in basis, or scheduled via phone at 651-251-2629. Appointments are needed for telehealth – schedule via phone at 651-251-2629. No insurance is needed.

The Living Room at Emma Norton is funded through special grants by the Medica Foundation, Minnesota Department of Human Services, and Ramsey County.

Emma’s Place Stories

There’s no shame in getting peer support, and it helps you realize that you’re not the only one who struggles with certain things. Having somebody there who has been through it, it’s easier to talk to them.
