Children & Youth
Education and Support
All families at Emma’s Place have access to the youth programming held in the community center, but they get additional support as well. Our family case managers work with families with young children on an individual basis and encourage peer support and referrals to community services. Our staff refer families to accredited early childhood programs, provides tools parents can use to encourage positive development in the home, assists families in accessing well-child checkups, immunizations, mental healthcare and dental care, and access to transportation. Youth and families are able to participate in field trips and other community gatherings and events as well.
Social-Emotional Learning
In fall of 2019, Emma’s Place launched new youth programming with a focus on social-emotional learning in the context of trauma-informed care (SEL-TIC). SEL education provides a foundation for all other kinds of learning, and increases the likelihood of positive outcomes not only in school, but also in careers and relationships. The core of SEL is teaching self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making. In the context of trauma-informed care, Emma’s Place staff are effectively able to teach these social-emotional skills in their supportive curriculum. Staff also support children and youth with homework help, and community events like birthday parties and field trips.
Children & Youth Stories
I love having my own room and the quiet it brings. When I’m in my room I like to draw and dance.
